Sky Island Alliance is a grassroots organization dedicated to the protection and
restoration of the rich natural heritage of native species and habitats in the Sky
Island region of the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico.
Sky Island Alliance is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. All contributions are tax deductible.

Long-term support from our individual members is critical to fulfilling Sky Island Alliance’s
mission. Maintaining a strong, trusting relationship with our members is key to this vital
source of support. Sky Island Alliance respects the privacy of its members and donors.
A robust base of community support is critical to the long-term success of our organization.
Sky Island Alliance’s strategic plan includes goals of increasing and diversifying our base of
member support. Our policies and actions as they relate to membership and donor privacy
balance the needs and desires of our contributors, along with meeting the need for efficient
and effective fundraising.
Sky Island Alliance will, on occasion, exchange membership lists with other well-established
charitable, like-minded nonprofit organizations. We believe occasional list exchanges
conducted within the guidelines of this policy will help us bring more attention to the issues
and concerns that drive the mission of Sky Island Alliance and will allow Sky Island
Alliance and our membership to be a positive force for change. In sharing the contact
information of our supporters, the following principles will always apply:
- We will not sell, rent, give or exchange members’ names or contact information to, with,
or from any candidate for public office, committees or organizations supporting a candidate, political parties, or organizations that solicit funds for use in political campaigns for any purpose.
- We will respect the privacy of all members by offering a means by which their names may
be suppressed upon their request, and we will honor their requests. Members may, at any
time, contact us in writing to request their information not be shared. We will also provide
notice of this option in various mailings to members. Also, we will endeavor to provide
additional regular notices of this option through other means including email and our web
- Some donors may be recognized in publications like our membership newsletter or annual
report. Testimonials will be published only with the consent of the donor. Donors may also
notify us if they prefer that all or some of their contributions be made anonymously and not
- We will maintain active control of our membership lists by informing others, including
any non-profit partners or contractors, of this policy and by taking steps to enforce this
- We will maintain complete and accurate records of all uses of membership lists for at least
such time as required by law.
- When we perform a list exchange, we will ensure that the list is only for one-time use, and the only information we provide will be the member’s name and mailing address. No e-mail or telephone information will ever be shared.
- Occasionally, we may rent lists from other organizations in order to reach prospective
members. We will not rent lists from any organization if we believe doing so may
compromise the trust between Sky Island Alliance and its members.
- We collect personal information from visitors to our web site only if they make a donation,
purchase items from our web site, sign up to volunteer, subscribe to our email newsletters or request goods or services from us. Sky Island Alliance will collect personal information such as name, address, email, telephone number and other relevant information. We use personal information to: A) process donations or other requests; B) thank donors; C) send additional information about Sky Island Alliance programs, opportunities, services and needs we believe will interest them; and D) meet legal receipting and reporting requirements. Web site visitors who provide us with their name and e-mail address may be added to our e-mail list, from which they can be removed at any time by following the instructions that are found in our electronic communications or by contacting us via phone, mail or email.
Sky Island Alliance’s online donation sites are secured by GeoTrust®, a leading global
Certification Authority. Their SSL and code-signing digital certificates are used globally to
secure servers, provide data encryption, authenticate users, protect privacy and ensure online
identities through stringent authentication and verification processes. Our staff is committed
to following established guidelines to protecting all sensitive information shared with Sky
Island Alliance, including credit card information. For security purposes, we do not keep
credit card information on file.
As with all of Sky Island Alliance’s activities, in our fundraising practices, we will comply
with all laws and regulations.
